Share Post :

Cedar Point, IL–The Village of Cedar Point, through a Starved Rock Country Community Foundation community grant, seeks to launch Mining for Music. In Mayor Kevin LaFollette’s words, Mining for Music will “honor Cedar Point’s coal mining heritage while transforming underutilized public space into a vibrant, welcoming destination for residents and visitors alike.”

Mining for Music plans to create a flower and pollinator garden and pocket park in Cerri Memorial Park, anchored by a historic coal cart from Cedar Point’s mining past. Another coal cart will anchor a landmark display along Highway 71. This lasting community space will honor the Village’s heritage, promote environmental sustainability, and serve as a gathering place for residents and visitors alike year round. Plans for the park include community planting days, school and civic group activities, seasonal events, and more.
