OGLESBY, IL–The George A. Hunter Memorial Fund, established through the Starved Rock Country Community Foundation, provides an annual grant to Oglesby Washington Junior High School’s library to support and inspire young readers, writers, and dreamers. Each spring, the school library will receive support in Hunter’s honor to continue his legacy of service and learning. George A. Hunter served on the Oglesby Board of Education for 57 years, with 54 of those as board secretary. Jane Newsom, granddaughter of George A. Hunter, recently presented the first annual donation to Student Council President Easton Strand.

The moment bridged decades of dedication to the Oglesby School District by both the Hunter and Strand families. With Easton Strand leading the student body, his family’s commitment to the board spans 34 years through his grandfather, Marc Strand, and continues with his father, Anthony Strand, who joined the board in 2023. This dedication to education will enrich and inspire the Oglesby community for generations to come–one page, one book, and one story at a time.
