The Streator Family YMCA recently received a $1,000 community grant for its “Rock Steady Boxing to Fight Parkinson’s Disease” program from the Starved Rock Country Community Foundation.

Rock Steady is an evidence-based program allowing participants to engage in a non-contact, boxing-based fitness curriculum designed to improve strength, balance, and overall quality of life for those living with Parkinson’s.

“The program has seen incredible success in participants at our YMCA,” said Shannon Harback, Executive Director. “Rock Steady empowers people of all abilities to fight back.”

The SRCCF grant will help provide access to the program for those who have limited ability to pay.

“This life-changing program offers opportunities to regain independence, improve health, and foster a sense of community to those who need it most,” Harback said. “We are grateful for the support of the Starved Rock Country Community Foundation.”
