As it approaches its 100th anniversary, Camp Tuckabatchee has partnered with the Starved Rock Country Community Foundation to help ensure its sustainability for generations. The Camp Tuckabatchee Charitable Fund will support much-needed building and property maintenance on its 210-acres of wooded hills and creek valleys north of Ottawa.

“For generations, the camp has been enriching the lives of children through nature experiences in a technology-free environment. For many campers it’s the first time they experience trail hiking, canoeing, storytelling and campfire cooking,” said SRCCF President Fran Brolley.

Established in 1927 as a Campfire Girls site, it transitioned to a boys and girls summer youth camp in the late 1980s. Camp Tuckabatchee Board President Adrienne Pike said funding for the camp, a nonprofit 501(c)3, comes from donations, camp fees, rentals and fundraising events such as Haunted Camp and Comedy Night. A year-long series of events is being planned for its centennial celebration in 2027.

‘We are honored to play a small role in helping secure the camp’s future. With aging cabins, lodges, roads, and bridges in dire need of renovation, it faces significant challenges. Public support is needed to preserve this beloved institution. By giving generously, donors will ensure ‘Camp Tuck’s’ rich traditions endure,” Brolley added.
